This is a grand week to practice your Halloween persona. You can be a punk one day and sport a bandana the next, cram your face with candy corn or chocolate, settle in for a spooky story or go walking after midnight at a local burial ground.

• Today: Rebel against the man on Punk for a Day Day. Spike your hair and dye it purple, clothe yourself in leather and perfect that Billy Idol snarl.

• Tomorrow: Bandanas are not just for Bret Michaels, especially not on International Bandana Day, when they show support for cancer patients. For a funky one, hit up Brackney Leather on 8th Street in Wyoming.

• Saturday: No better time to take in some spooky tales than National Tell a Story Day. At 10:30 a.m., listen in with the little ones at Halloween Storytime at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library in Fairview Township.

• Sunday: Indulge. It's National Chocolates Day, and we have no shortage of local purveyors. To name a few: Michael Mootz in Hanover Township, Jon L. Stopay in Plains Township – peanut butter chiffons, anyone? – and, of course, good old Gertrude Hawk. Where would we be without her?

• Monday: Do you dare walk among the dead at night? Give it a shot this Visit a Cemetery Day. We hear Hollenback Cemetery on River Street in Wilkes-Barre is a great place for a midnight stroll.

• Tuesday: It's more than 130 years old, it's a Halloween staple, and it's possible it just never goes stale. Grab a handful of that tri-colored sugary stuff this National Candy Corn Day. The National Confectioner's Association estimates close to 20 million pounds of it are sold each year.

• Wednesday: While Oct. 31 is always reserved for something scary, be different and celebrate another segment of society that has kept us in cookies all these years. It's Girl Scout Founders Day, so thank a local scout for all her hard work and all her prompt deliveries of Thin Mints.
