DURYEA – Police are investigating the vandalism of approximately 20 tombstones at the Holy Rosary Cemetery on Church and Chittenden Street.


Police said they were alerted to the damage around 11 p.m. Friday, when a neighbor was taking his dog for his nightly walk through the area and came upon the damaged tombstones.


He called 911 to report the damage and said there was no visible damage the night before.


Police said they have no information linking this latest vandalism to that which occurred on Oct. 13, when two statues and the organ at the Holy Rosary Church a few blocks away were spray-painted.


Police are asking for anyone with information or who may have seen anyone in the area on Friday to call they.


They also are asking if parents could ask their children about the incident and urge them to come forward if they have any information.

HANOVER TWP. – Alex Chesna of Shawnee Street reported Saturday a snow blower was stolen from his unlocked garage.


HAZLETON - Police on Friday said they were investigating a report of shots fired in the area of Ninth and Hayes streets. No one was injured. Witnesses and victims told police a the shots were fired from an SUV. Police recovered shell casings from the scene.


HAZLE TWP. – Elisa Mairena of Grape Vine Lane reported Friday a laptop computer was stolen during a burglary at her residence.


The break-in occurred between 8:15 a.m. and 7 p.m.


TUNKHANNOCK TWP. – State police filed child abuse charges against Travis Darrow, 22, of Tunkhannock.


Darrow allegedly assaulted his 16-month old daughter and wife on numerous occasions between Oct. 11 and 23.


State police said the child suffered a broken arm.


Darrow was arrested Friday on charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment.


He was arraigned and committed to the Wyoming County Jail for lack of $170,000 bail.
