>> I??M SUCH A MISFIT: It??s the most beloved and longest-running holiday special on TV, but would you believe that when Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer first aired in 1964, it was swaddled in controversy. Yes, it??s true. Sorta. The original version featured an ending in which Santa, Rudolph and the gang take off and an elf holds up presents with the credits printed on them. But viewers were upset. ??What happened to those shoddily made, but charming Misfit Toys? Didn??t Rudolph promise Santa would return for them?? So, in response to the protests, the next year producers went back and shot scenes where Santa does go and pick up the toys. You can see that happier ending at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

>> GREAT SKATES: Have you ever been to the Mohegan Sun Arena for a Penguins game and said to yourself, ??Man, would I like to do that.? No, not slam some Albany defenseman into the boards. We??re talking about skating on the same ice the pros do. Well, now you can. But there is a ??catch.? The arena will be holding a public skate from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, but to get in you must bring an unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. You can also get in with a $5 donation, but bringing a toy is more fun.

>> A REAL AMERICAN IDOL: Singer/songwriter Paul Anka has done so much in his career, it??s hard to say what his biggest achievement is. He sang the hit songs ??Diana,? ??Lonely Boy,? and ??Put Your Head on My Shoulder.? He wrote the theme song for ??The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,? and he wrote the lyrics for Frank Sinatra??s ??My Way.? He was even a guest star in a 1974 episode of ??Kojak.? The best thing is, if you??re a fan of his, he??ll be at the F.M. Kirby Center at 8 p.m. Friday in a show mixing his own hits with some holiday classics.

>> WHERE DID I PARK MY DELOREAN? It??s a good rule of thumb that, if you wish to be thought sane, don??t go around telling people you??re a time traveler. Which is why, if you are going to take part in ??Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day? on Saturday, you??re not supposed to actually TELL anyone about it. There are ??rules,? you see. You??re supposed to spend the day in ??character? acting like you??re from the future or the past. For example, walking up to someone and going ??I must get a message to President Bieber. Where can I find a pay teleporter?? is a good way to act like you??re from some scary, dystopian future. Or a good way to get people to avoid you.

>> TIE ONE ON: As fine, patriotic Americans, it??s pretty tough to pick a team to root for in the annual Army-Navy game. Both teams are full of courageous young men who can play football as well as defend our nation. So maybe the only red-blooded American thing to do is root for a tie. There have actually been seven of them since the series started in 1890 ?? the last one a touchdown-challenged 3-3 affair in 1981. So, when the teams kick off at 3 p.m. this Saturday on CBS, here??s hoping the game ends deadlocked. ? What??s that? They have overtime now? Games can??t end in ties anymore? .. Never mind.
