WILKES-BARRE TWP. – Those passing by Gentleman's Club 10 recently have noticed a coming soon sign for a new restaurant that's slated to open this year. But it's not the end of the BYOB gentlemen's club, which is housed next to the proposed business.

Club 10 minority owner Robert J. Thomas said the sign has sparked confusion and has led some to believe his establishment is closing or closed.

We are open, Thomas said Monday. That is a separate business that's located in the same strip. But that sign is confusing.

Tom Cedolik, the zoning and code enforcement officer in Wilkes-Barre Township, said Angelina's Bar and Restaurant has been in the works for more than a year and is a project of Club 10 majority owner Sal Scalzo.

Scalzo said the 4,000-square-foot establishment will employ 35-40 people, be open seven days a week and have a smoking bar area and a non-smoking dining area. Wings and pizza will be the specialty, he added.

Cedolik said a bar/restaurant is an allowed use in that zone but still needs an occupancy permit from the township before it can open. He said January is the target date from what he understands.

We'll definitely be open by the Super Bowl, said Scalzo.

Club 10 opened in 2006 after objections by the township were overruled by then-Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Conahan. The strip club then withstood a voter referendum that same year when township voters were asked whether they favored the prohibition of the operation of establishments commonly referred to as bottle clubs.

Since then legal battles between Scalzo and the minority owners have been waged. The case is still in appeal and the minority owners have been running the club.

But until that's settled, Scalzo said, he'll be doing what he can to make sure Angelina's is successful.
