WILKES-BARRE – A Sambourne Street woman was arrested Monday after police investigated a report of a drunk woman assaulting her children.

Police said they responded to 118 Sambourne St. at 7 p.m. and heard a woman screaming at people inside the residence; they also heard children crying inside.

Police knocked several times and threatened to kick in the door before a male identified as Howard Billson, who was holding a 14-month-old girl, opened the door.

Police found a boy inside the house who complained of leg pain. He told police that his mother, whom police identified as Michelle L. Billson, threw his sister’s toy at him and struck him in the leg, police said.

Police also said the boy told them his mother grabbed him and pushed him against a wall. Police said the boy had red marks near his neck that were consistent with him being pushed.

The boy also told police he saw his mother grab the little girl and place her on the ground so forcefully that she struck the back of her head on the ground, police said. The girl was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Michelle Billson was placed under arrest and charged with endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment, police said.

She was to be transported to Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await arraignment, but had not arrived there prior to press deadline Monday night.
