WILKES-BARRE ‚?? A woman linked to the hit-and-run that claimed the life of 5-year-old Kevin Miller last month was jailed Friday at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
Abigail Tamara Tarver, 24, of Oak Street, Pittston Township, was listed as an inmate at the county prison on Monday.
Court records from Monroe County say Tarver was sentenced in July to one year in the Intermediate Punishment Program after she pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, her second offense.
Records do not provide the reason Tarver was jailed.
Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Chad Martinez, who prosecuted Tarver on the DUI charge, did not return a call for comment Monday.
State police at Swiftwater filed the DUI charge in December 2011. Luzerne County prosecutors and Wilkes-Barre police have an interest in Tarver, who they believe communicated with her boyfriend Thomas Letteer Jr., 22, after Miller was struck by a red Pontiac Grand Am on West North Street on Dec. 21.
The Luzerne County District Attorney‚??s Office and city police have filed search warrants for cellphone records and Facebook communications for Tarver and Letteer.
District Attorney Stephanie Salavantis identified Letteer as a person of interest shortly after a red Pontiac Grand Am was seized from his residence on Mack Street, Plains Township, on Jan. 4.
Police said Miller was holding his father‚??s hand as they left a Christmas party when he was struck at 10:56 p.m. Dec. 21. Investigators believe Letteer called Tarver ‚??a few minutes before 11 p.m.‚?Ě on Dec. 21, saying he was on his way to her apartment on Oak Street, according to the search warrants.
Tarver told investigators she never had any discussions with anyone regarding Letteer‚??s alleged involvement in the hit-and-run on West North Street, but investigators say they learned Tarver did confide in a friend identified in search warrants as Witness #2, who contacted police on Dec. 29.
No charges have been filed in the fatal hit-and-run investigation.
