Misericordia‚??s Stauffer named Coach of Year

DALLAS – Mark Stauffer of Misericordia University has been named the Division III Women's Soccer Coach of the Year by National Soccer Coaches Association of America.


Stauffer, in his 13th year at the helm at Misericordia, led the Cougars to a 20-3-2 record and a Freedom Conference championship as the team advanced to the Division III Final Four in San Antonio, Texas.


Stauffer has a career record of 170-84-14. The Cougars set a school record for wins in a season and finished the season ranked fourth in the nation.


MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
FDU-Florham 63, Wilkes 59

Wilkes fell short at FDU-Florham at the Ferguson Recreation Center.


Alec Wizar led the Wilkes offense, scoring a career-high 18 points including a 5-for-10 performance from long range. Steve Stravinski followed with a career-high 12 points and four rebounds in extended minutes, and fellow rookie Jim Brackett finished with six points and seven rebounds.


Lebanon Valley 60, Misericordia 57

Matt Greene led Misericordia with 13 points and four assists, while Justin Grotevant added 11 points and six rebounds.


LCCC 47, Bucks CCC 43

Brandon Colorusso had 18 points in the LCCC victory over Bucks County Community College.


WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
FDU-Florham 64, Wilkes 47

Elena Stambone led Wilkes with a team-best 21 points while Ginny Edwards followed with nine points and nine rebounds.


Delaware Valley 73, Misericordia 58

Misericordia dropped its third straight Freedom Conference game.


Lauren Smicherko led the Cougars with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Hannah Seely and Kayla Sileo added 16 and 10 points, respectively.


LCCC 74, Bucks CCC 35

Theresa Kalinay had 21 points while Michelle Bugonowicz had 14 points and Alexis Barsh had 11 in the LCCC victory.


MEN'S COLLEGE SWIMMING
Scranton 140, Misericordia 120

Adam Grzech and Peter Kolokithias each earned an individual victory for Misericordia. Chris Panagacos earned his first career individual victory with a win in the 200 fly, and freshman Pat O'Dell took the win in the 200 back.


Matt Essington earned a commanding win in the f00 Free while Thomas Machi led a 1-2-3 finish for the Cougars in the 400 IM.


Albright 147, King's 81

King's Matt Thompson captured the 100 fly while Matt Dickson was a winner in the 100 breast and Lucas Crock won the 200 IM.


WOMEN'S COLLEGE SWIMMING
Scranton 139, Misericordia 123

Juniors Bree Grzech and Brittany Luzik each earned a pair of individual victories to go with a pair of relay wins, but Misericordia still team fell to Scranton.


Dani Blass also won the 200 free while junior Amanda Stammherr earned the victory in the 100 breast.


Albright 151, King's 97

Patricia Manning won the 1000 free and the 200 IM for King's. Kim Brino won the 100 fly.


WOMEN'S COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD
Misericordia competes at Susquehanna Invitational

Ashlee Ward, Stephanie Grow and Marina Orrson all recorded first-place finishes to lead Misericordia at the Susquehanna Orange & Maroon Invitational on Friday.


Ward qualified for the ECAC Championships with her winning high jump, while Grow won at 400 and Orrson took the 3,000 run and qualified for the ECAC event.


COLLEGE WRESTLING
Wilkes wins at Metropolitan

Wilkes moved its dual match win streak to 11, posting two wins at the Metropolitan Duals at Centenary College.


The Colonels opened with a 29-9 win over No. 9 Delaware Valley before claiming a 38-3 victory over Hunter College.


Elizabethtown 23, King's 16

King's College fell to Elizabethtown at the Metropolitan Conference Duals at Centenary College. Aaron Perez (133) scored the only pin for the Monarchs.
