Allied Services Integrated Health System has partnered with Marywood University to provide music therapy to patients, residents, clients and consumers across its divisions. Music therapy is an established health profession in which music is used in a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals. Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in many areas. Music therapy students recently gained clinical hours by playing instruments and engaging residents in singing love songs in celebration of Valentine’s Day at Allied Terrace Personal Care Facility. Participants, from left, first row, are Theresa Novak, Ann Greggs, Bessie Elvidge, Camille Grover and Doris Dempsey. Second row: Irene Speicher; Jessica Velardi and Julianna Altonjy, music therapy students, Marywood; John Henry; George Bonifanti; and Cheryl Ellsworth, music therapy program director.
