Society to hold Astronomy Day

The Lackawanna Astronomical Society will host its annual Astronomy Day May 11. This year’s event, beginning at 7 p.m. will be held on the grounds of Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari Observatory in Fleetville. Weather permitting, the public can observe the planets Jupiter, Saturn, star cluster and galaxies.


Telescopes with filters designed to view the sun safely, will be used to observe sunspots and the solar environment. Society members will help beginners, answering questions on telescopes and observing. A slide program will be presented.


Admission is free. Atendees should dress appropriately to keep warm in the evening. Refreshments will be available.
