HAZLETON — City police have identified a suspect in the shooting of a 29-year-old man early this morning on West Diamond Avenue.
The Hazleton Police Detective Division has applied for an arrest warrant for Juan Carlos Paulino, 26, of 635 N. James St., Apartment 2, Hazleton, police said in a press release.
Police allege that Paulino shot a man, whose name they would not release, multiple times in the chest and abdomen in the 600 block of West Diamond Avenue at about 1:40 this morning.
Paulino then allegedly fled in a gray 2005 Subaru bearing Pennsylvania registration plate JGL7361, police said.
Paulino is charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Rush Township police also have an arrest warrant for Paulino for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses, police said.
Paulino is described as a black Hispanic male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 290 pounds with a bald head and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his right arm, left arm and neck. He is to be considered armed and dangerous. Police advise that no one approach him if he is located.
Anyone with information on Paulino’s whereabouts or possible whereabouts should contact Hazleton police via the Luzerne County Communication Center by dialing 911. All information will be held in confidence, police said.

HAZLETON - A 29-year-old man was hospitalized early Friday morning for gunshot wounds.
Police said the man, whose name was not released, was found with gunshot wounds to his chest in the 700 block of West Diamond Avenue at about 2 a.m.
The man was transported to Hazleton General Hospital and flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Lehigh County, police said.
