The Northeast Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association sponsored the inaugural Anne Vanko Liva Piano Competition on June 8-9 at The Great Hall at Wyoming Seminary. Anne Liva was a nationally prominent piano teacher and clinician who promoted the arts in northeast Pennsylvania for over 60 years. She resided in Scranton and taught at Wilkes College and in Scranton. The competition committee was chaired by Michael Popick and committee members were Andrea Bogusko, Ray Cramer, Thomas Hrynkiw and Michele Malinko, all former students of Liva. Judges were Michael Borthwick, Erica Castaldo and John Zinsky. Competitors study piano under Bogusko, Pamela Carroll, Cramer, Cynthia D’Alessandro, Roger Hayden, Hrynkiw, Christine Leandri, Michele Millington, Popick, and Diane Shuleski.
