Last Meeting: Valley West 48-14 in 2012
All-Time Series: Valley West leads 20-17
Quick Fact: Valley West has won the last 10 meetings, topping 40 points five times in that span.
Scouting Valley West: The Spartans made quick work of yet another opponent, taking a 48-6 halftime lead against Pittston Area and cruising to a 54-6 win. RB Eric Acosta, the team’s leading rusher, was sidelined, but the Spartans showed how deep they are in the backfield with four guys scoring rushing touchdowns. The defense smothered the Patriots, who have had trouble on offense all season. A victory locks up a home game in the District 2/4-11 Class 4A playoffs.
Scouting Williamsport: The Millionaires were shut out for the third time this season in last Friday’s 35-0 loss at Crestwood. The offense finished with a season-low 81 yards. That’s been a problem all season, as Williamsport has rushed for less than 100 yards in seven games. Over the last four games, the defense has been on the field for 75 more plays than the offense. Eventually, the defense wears down, and that’s particularly evident against running teams. Crestwood rushed for 436 yards, the worst effort by the Williamsport defense this year.
What To Expect: Valley West might be a little slow out of the gates after a long day in school and a long road trip. Once the Spartans get their legs under them, they shouldn’t have much trouble coming home with a big win.
