Fred Schiel, a Hanover Area High School student, recently donated $10,000 to the pediatric program at Heinz Rehab Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Schiel raised the funds by organizing the first ‘Helping Hands Smiling Faces’ golf tournament on Sept. 23 at the Wyoming Valley Country Club. He was inspired by his sister Felicia, who received physical and occupational therapy through the Heinz Rehab pediatric program as a child. The program provides comprehensive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy and partners with families to enhance the quality of life and outcomes for children and adolescents with a wide range of medical diagnoses. At the check presentation, from left: Jean Fredmund, assistant director of physical therapy, Heinz Rehab Outpatient Therapy Center; Mary Beth Spellman, assistant director of occupational therapy, Heinz Rehab Hospital; Fred Schiel; and Joanne Schiel.
