Wilkes-Barre cops recover weapon after shots fired in Ashley

ASHLEY — Police have recovered a weapon following multiple reports of shots being fired in the borough.

Ashley police are investigating reports of shots fired on Main Street near the Strish Funeral Home.

shortly before 8:38 p.m. Friday.

The shooter apparently fled to Wilkes-Barre and crashed a vehicle near 308 Blackman St. a short time later.

Wilkes-Barre police at the crash scene were observed recovering an automatic rifle.

An Ashley police officer reached at the police station later Friday referred comment to Police Chief John Bell, whom he said was on the road and did not reply to a message seeking information on the incident before press time.
