Two men are facing charges from three different West Side police departments after they were caught Thursday evening on Wilson Street’s 200 block in Exeter allegedly with pellet guns and pocket knives.

Police apprehended four males that night after a string of tire slashings and acts of vandalism in three municipalities Thursday. One man, Joshua Rose, and the fourth male, a 15-year-old boy whom police have not named but noted he was wearing a monitoring device on his ankle, have not yet been charged.

Exeter and Wyoming police have charged Harley Davidson Johnson, 19, of West Pittston, and Allan Recine Herring Jr., of Wilkes-Barre, with slashing tires on 32 vehicles in Exeter and Wyoming; West Pittston police charged both with throwing a stone through a home’s window along Luzerne Avenue in West Pittston. Each man blames the other for throwing the stone, according to arrest papers.

Wyoming police estimate total damage to the 27 vehicles in the borough exceeds $4,900, police said. Damage to the six vehicles in Exeter probably exceeds $1,100.

According to an affidavit from Wyoming:

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, the four slashed vehicle tires along Wyoming Avenue, West Eighth Street, Atherton Avenue and Institute Street. With a pellet gun, they shot through the window of a vehicle parked along Wyoming Avenue, threw a stone through a stained-glass window and slashed more tires in the Price Chopper parking lot.

While in custody at Exeter Borough Police Department and after police informed them of their Miranda Rights, the four gave written statement to Wyoming police attesting to the crimes.

According to an affidavit from Exeter:

Borough police received two calls Thursday night, one alerting them of two more tire slashings and the second that several suspicious males were wandering through yards in the area of Whitlock and Wilson streets.

Police said they found the three men to be carrying replica Airsoft-style pellet guns and plastic pellets. The 15-year-old was carrying a pocket knife in his waistband.

Rose provided a written statement that he and Johnson had slashed several tires on Wilson and Whitlock streets in Exeter Park. The juvenile told police the four of them were walking down Wilson Street when Rose and Johnson started slashing tires.

Altogether, Johnson and Herring are facing 52 misdemeanor charges each for vandalism and corruption of minors. The two were jailed for lack of $30,000 bail each.

A preliminary hearing for both men is scheduled for Jan. 29 before District Judge Michael G. Dotzel.
