WILKES-BARRE — The former treasurer of the Kingston Township Raiders Inc. Youth Football Organization has been arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the organization.
District Attorney Stefanie J. Salavantis has announced that her office has made the arrest of Holly J. Bolesta for the misuse of $19,720.23 of the youth football organization’s funds.
Bolesta has been charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, theft by deception and violation of Solicitation of Funds for Charitable Purposes Act-Prohibited Acts. She was arraigned today at 3 p.m. at the Office of District Justice James Tupper and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
On Nov. 11, 2012, a report was made to Kingston Township police suspecting a theft from the youth football organization.
Members of the organization suspected that Bolesta was taking money from the organization’s checking and savings accounts. Kingston Township police referred the case to the Luzerne County Detective’s Division for investigation, Salavantis said in a news release.
Through the investigation, it was determined that Bolesta served as treasurer for the nonprofit organization, and she was entrusted with the checkbook and had the responsibility of paying the organization’s bills and making the deposits for monies received, Salavantis said.
Bolesta allegedly wrote numerous checks to herself for her own personal use in the sum of $19,720.23 of the organization’s funds and paid back $13,325.85, leaving an amount owed totaling $6,394.38.
Bolesta’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on May 15.
