Two natives of Duryea, both Pittston Area graduates, were honored recently by the company they work for, Derma Sciences, a Princeton, New Jersey-based company that does business globally.

Two of the top awards presented by the company are the “Employee of the Year” and “Sales Rep of the Year.”

Marcy Turkos was named “Employee of the Year,” and John Borthwick earned “Sales Rep of the Year.”

According to Barry Wolfenson, group president of Derma Sciences, the company is focused on developing and commercializing products for severe wounds and burns.

“We often provide products to help treat wounded warriors from our military,” Wolfenson said.

The awards were presented at the company’s annual sales meeting last week. Wolfenson said the company employs more than 400 people from all over the world, with sales in more than 20 countries.

Wolfenson said the company’s annual sales are about $80 million.

Borthwick has been a leading sales representative for the company for years. His territory is in Florida. He is one of 50 sales reps for the company within the U.S.

Wolfenson said each year, the reps are tasked with growing their base business of sales. The rep who achieves the greatest increase wins the award for top rep.

Not only did Borthwick earn this distinction for 2014, he also was the top rep in 2013. Borthwick’s job is to meet with clinicians to educate them on products, help them trial the products on their own patients, and then educate the staff when the product is officially brought in for use at the location.

Turkos started at Derma over four years ago as the only clinical field specialist. As the company grew, she has taken the lead over this function, and now is the director of the group, managing a team of five, and additional support staff as well.

Turkos has one of the most demanding positions within the company, Wolfenson said, yet year in and year out is able to push the company forward. Her efforts have helped to establish Derma as one of the leading Advanced Wound Care companies in the U.S.
