Josephine B. Sak, 94, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Township and Plains Township, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Little Flower Manor in Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre Township on June 16, 1918, a daughter of the late John and Mary Atcavage.
She attended Marymount Parochial School. Josephine was formerly employed at the Penn State Belt & Buckle Co. in Wilkes-Barre Township.
Josephine was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Plains Township. She was a former member of St. Joseph’s Monastery in Wilkes-Barre Township, where she was an active volunteer and cook at the annual bazaar. She also was a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Sak, in 1985; her brothers, Stanley, Louis and John Atcavage; her sisters, Mary Solt, Regina Carpenter and Edith Rogers.
Surviving are daughters, Eileen Olszyk and her husband, Paul, Wilkes-Barre Township, and Dolores Jean McCrea, Plains Township; son, Thomas Sak and his wife, Mary Cathleen, Hudson; grandchildren, Randall Olszyk, John Richard McCrea, Jason Michael McCrea, Thomas Sak III, Mary Jeanette Hockenberry; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
