If you thought the start of spring on March 20 meant we were done with snow, think again.
A winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service at Binghamton, N.Y., says the area could receive three to seven inches of snow today with even greater accumulations in the higher elevations.
Snow is expected to develop this afternoon and become heavy in the evening, mixing with sleet and freezing rain late Monday and into early Tuesday morning.
The www.weather.gov seven-day forecast for Wilkes-Barre says, perhaps more precisely, that snow will begin after noon today, following some morning flurries. There’s a supposed 100 percent chance of some kind of precipitation, with two inches of snow called for before nightfall.
Another three inches of snow could pile up with another near guarantee of accumulation tonight.
“Little or no snow accumulation” is predicted for Tuesday, even though the forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of precipitation.
Even if the models are wrong, it’s a safe bet to plan either an alternate route home or some extra time at the end of your day – just in case that 100 percent chance is a good guess.
As of 6:55 a.m., PennDOT had not issued any new traffic advisories for the area, so it should be a pretty basic start to the work week.
