(AP) Ted Ligety is leading after the first run of a World Cup giant slalom Sunday, with U.S. teammate Bode Miller close behind.

In a snowstorm, Ligety navigated the technical course to near perfection finish in 1 minute, 19.83 seconds. He’s got a 1.10-second lead over Miller heading into the final run. Marcel Hirscher of Austria is third.

Miller attacked the deteriorating course like the Miller of old, the crowd in Beaver Creek, Colo., erupting when he surged across the finish line. Miller is quickly rounding into form after missing all of last season because of a knee injury.

Ligety is chasing after his fourth straight World Cup giant slalom victory. Italy’s Alberto Tomba last accomplished that feat in 1991.
