(AP) Brittany Rountree scored 13 points and No. 15 North Carolina held on to beat No. 8 Maryland 60-57 on Thursday night.


Tierra Ruffin-Pratt also had 13 points and Waltiea Rolle added 12 for the Tar Heels (14-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference).


They blew most of an 11-point second-half lead and were just 1 of 7 from the free-throw line in the final minute but won their seventh straight.


Alyssa Thomas scored 11 of her 15 points in the final 5 minutes for Maryland (10-3, 1-1), and her drive with 14 seconds left pulled the Terrapins to 59-57.


Danielle Butts hit a free throw with 10.9 seconds left for North Carolina, and teammate Krista Gross missed two foul shots with 9.3 seconds left to give Maryland one last chance.


Ruffin-Pratt blocked Katie Rutan’s 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left, and Rutan’s 3 at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
