(AP) Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon organizers are unveiling several changes to the race this year, including shifting the race date to Nov. 17.

Competitor Group executive Adam Zocks joined Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman on Thursday to talk about the new date, new course route and plans for security in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing in March.

Officials say they’re coordinating security plans with Las Vegas police.

The race was held last year on the first Sunday in December, but that date conflicts with the heavily attended 10-day National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack arena.

The nighttime marathon and half-marathon drew more than 30,000 entrants in 2012 from the U.S. and 40 countries.

Runners start and finish on the neon-lit Las Vegas Strip.
