(AP) Chrysler says its sales rose 11 percent in May, a sign that auto sales rebounded from a slight dip in April.

The automaker says it sold almost 167,000 cars and trucks last month for its best May since 2007.

The performance was led by the Ram pickup with a 22 percent increase over a year ago.

The company’s performance surprised some industry analysts who expected Chrysler to post a decline.

Analysts expect U.S. sales to rebound in May to an annual rate of about 15.2 million vehicles. All automakers report sales on Monday.

Analysts say Memorial Day sales and Nissan price cuts are drawing buyers back into showrooms.

The strong showing comes after slower-than-expected sales in April.
