WILKES-BARRE – A suit filed recently in Luzerne County Court by an insurance company for King’s College is seeking to recoup more than $50,000, alleging a former college employee took the money for personal use.
Travelers Casualty & Surety Co. of America filed the suit against Erin Savitski, of Shavertown, stating it is owed $57,399 that Savitski allegedly took from the college while employed as the director of human resources in 2011.
Savitski did not return a message seeking comment.
John McAndrew, a spokesman for the Wilkes-Barre college , said Tuesday the college does not comment on pending litigation or personnel matters.
He would not comment on whether the college will be notifying law enforcement or if any safeguards have been put in place to prevent a future occurrence. McAndrew did confirm Savitski was employed as the director of human resources and that she left the college in August 2011.
No criminal charges have been filed against Savitski.
According to the suit, Savitski allegedly took “appropriated business funds for personal use” and hid her conduct by “misleading” the college that she was using the money appropriately.
Savitski, the suit says, added $50,438 in unauthorized stipends to her paychecks and used another $6,961 in unauthorized disbursements. The suit does not specifically say what the money may have been used for.
The insurance company covered the missing money for the college and is seeking repayment of that money.
The suit says Savitski’s actions were uncovered on Aug. 23, 2011, and she was terminated six days later.
