(AP) Defendants charged with damaging a Tennessee nuclear weapons plant during a July intrusion say they have no remorse for their actions and that they were pleased to reach one of the most secure parts of the facility.
Sister Megan Rice, an 83-year-old Catholic nun, Michael Walli and Greg Boertje-Obed testified on their own behalf in federal court in Knoxville on Wednesday. The case goes to the jury following closing arguments later in the day.
The defendants spent two hours inside the Y-12 National Security Complex in July, cutting through fences, hanging banners and spraying human blood on a uranium plant.
Defense attorney Bill Quigley said the judge is waiting until after the verdict to decide whether to dismiss the more serious of two charges against the trio.
