Jenkins Township

The Jenkins Township Senior Citizens’ organization will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April15, at the Jenkins Township Hose House. President Jean Mudlock will preside. Following the business meeting, members will enjoy several games of bingo. Refreshments will be served. Hostesses for this meeting will be Pat Rinish and Joan Yostum.

Falls Active Center

The Falls Active Adult Center, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming counties,is located on Route 92. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center invites anyone 50 and older to the following activities:

Monday: 1 to 2 p.m. Crochet and Craft club

Tuesday: Brain games at lunch

Wednesday: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Walking group meets; 1 to 2 p.m. Garden group meets

Thursday: Nutrition tips at lunch

Friday: Geocaching activity from 9:30 a.m. to noon

Wednesday, April 23: Volunteer recognition starting with snacks and music at 11 a.m.; Special lunch at noon, followed with a special recognition program.

Anyone wishing to join the center for a hot meal at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and older and $3 for those under 60, should RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before.


The next Cosmopolitan Seniors meeting will be Tuesday, April 15, in St. Anthony’s Center at 1 p.m. Hosts/Hostesses are: Lou Bryja, Marie Cheskiewicz, Rosalie Ferrara, Edith Jones, and Vic Malinowski.

Fifty members attended the previous meeting. Ron McAdarra led the group in prayer and song. Frank Schall was recognized on his 90th birthday and retired member Ann Sleboda on her 100th. Joe Kleback garnered a round of applause for having participated in Operation Iceberg 68 years ago.

Plans were discussed about the upcoming 39th Anniversary Mass and dinner. After a brief business meeting Bingo was played. Amy Alpaugh the Special game prize, and the jackpot prize was won by Toni Hall. 50/50 winners were: Amy Alpaugh, Lou Bryja, Joe Kleback, Johanna Malinowski, and Terri Mislan. Cheryl Pipher raffled a hand made Easter Wreath which was won by Fran Lepo.

A trip to Mount Airy Casino is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, with pickups in Exeter and Pittston. Included in the trip is a free Buffet and free slot tournament for those people 55 years of age or older. You do not have to be a club member to attend the trip.
