Denis Kuchta III, of Damascus, recently completed an Eagle Scout service project that improved the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s shooting range at State Game Lands 300 in Archbald Borough, Lackawanna County. Kuchta, a member of Northeastern Pennsylvania Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 122 in Damascus, constructed and installed 20 new shooting bench tops and seats at the heavily used range. The bench tops and seats were constructed off-site this past fall and installed in mid-April.

Eagle Scout service projects develop a Scout’s leadership skills and provide important lessons in project development and management. An Eagle Scout service project must benefit the community and it is considered the “application phase” of what an Eagle Scout candidate has learned thus far through Scouting.

Kuchta coordinated the range-improvement project with Game Commission personnel and solicited the help of other Scouts from Troop 122, with more than 150 hours being spent in project planning, material acquisition, construction and installation.

“This valuable project greatly improved conditions at this range and will be sure to impress anyone who visits or uses the range,” said Game Lands Maintenance Supervisor Jay Sporer. “Denis should be proud of his accomplishment and we wish him the best in his goal of attaining the prestigious title of Eagle Scout.”
