Cell phones and iPads and iPods, Oh My!

There are so many electronic devices and game apps to play, but did you know how easy it is to make some of those games? Some games like hangman, Pictionary or puzzles are simple to play with just a pencil and paper.

One such popular game is called, “Guess the Code.” You need at least two people to play. The object of this game is to guess the order of colored circles that your opponent sets up.

Here’s how to make the game: Cut out 12 circles from white paper. Choose six colored markers and color two circles the same color. For example, two red, two orange, two yellow, two blue, two purple and two green, totaling 12 circles.

How to play the game: One of each color goes to the person who’s doing the guessing and the other six go to the person in charge of the round, called the Mastermind. The Mastermind puts six colors in any order and doesn’t let anyone see them. The order of colors is the code trying to be guessed.

Those who are playing place their colored circles in an order to try and guess the same order that the Mastermind set up. For every color in the correct position, leave it in place. For colors guessed wrong, pick them up and try again by putting them in different places. You get 10 chances to try and Guess the Code.

For younger children, use three colored circles instead of six.
