Just in time for fall, The Vintage Pleat at The Attic Shop is back, with men’s and women’s clothing at reasonable prices.

Located in the Waverly Community House at 115 North Abington Rd., Waverly, the shop is run by the Waverly Women’s Club and has been in business for over 70 years. The original group of women who created the shop did so to help women of less fortunate lifestyles.

Today, the shop, whose staff includes Hollie Dagata, president of the Waverly Women’s Club (WWC); Carole Bauman, chairman of the WWC; Liana Walsh, secretary of the WWC; and Linda Snyder, personal shopper for the Vintage Pleat and corresponding secretary for the WWC, sells clothes, jewelry, and toys to families of all financial statuses.

According to the staff, the shop has a large demographic that has become even broader since joining Facebook. When discussing what makes this consignment shop able to compete with the rise of thrift stores and other consignment shops, Bauman, said that the shop has a lot of high-end clothing. Some of the designers brought into the store include Carlisle, Brooks Brothers and many more. Something else that makes this shop a little different from others is its wide selection of men’s clothing.

Consignors bring clothes to the shop and then the process of pricing and tagging each item begins. When an item is sold the consignor receives 50 percent of the profit made, part of what is left is given to the Waverly Community House, and the WWC donates the rest of the money to local charities.

The Vintage Pleat at The Attic Shop is a seasonal shop, only open in the fall and spring, due to the Waverly Community House’s summer camp. All of the clothes that do not sell during the year or at the shop’s end of the year $1 sale, are given to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and United Neighbors.
