>> BOOOOOO!: If there’s somethin’ strange in your neighborhood … Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters? Ehhh. No. If you’re looking to smack a free-floating, full-torso, vaporous apparition with your positron collider (metaphorically speaking) in NEPA, you’d be calling Society of Paranormal Research and Investigation. The group will be holding classes in Ghost Hunting 101 this Tuesday at the Scranton Cultural Center. They have two excursions planned for the brave of heart, one from 6 to 8 p.m. and another from 9 to 11 p.m.
>> GO OUT OF YOUR WAY: Don’t get the wrong idea about this Wednesday’s “Inconvenience Yourself Day.” It’s not a day to travel from Pittston to Wilkes-Barre via Route 80. And it’s not a day to get out of your car through the window or put both feet in one pant leg when you get dressed. “Inconvenience Yourself Day,” is actually a nice idea to go out of your way to do or say something nice for others. If you drive all the way to Ohio to do it, hey, that’s your choice. You can do it closer to home, if you wish.
>> SWEPT OVERBOARD: To TV big shots, February is a sweeps month, a time where they use ratings to set advertising rates. So the networks usually trot out the big guns as the moth draws to a close. This Wednesday is a prime example. FOX is offering up a semifinal round on “American Idol” from 8 to 10 p.m. CBS is taking a journey to Caramoan in the Philippines for “Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites.” That’s on from 8 to 9 p.m. And ABC and NBC have a slew of comedies to mildly amuse. There’s so much to choose from, it’s scary.
>> A COOL TIME IN THE OLD ARENA: Hockey fans are in luck, as the WBS Penguins have a triple header of home games on ice this week. First up on Wednesday, the Norfolk Admirals steam into town. For you trivia buffs, can you name the Admirals’ “parent” team? On Friday, the Hershey Bears pay a visit. Do you know who the Bears’ NHL affiliate is? Then on Saturday, the Albany Devils posses the arena. Guess who their NHL connection is. Uhhh. OK. That one’s easy. All games start at 7:05 p.m. (FYI: Admirals – Anaheim Ducks. Bears – Washington Capitals.)
>> SEUSS IS LOOSE: If you like to read books full of fun and rhyme, and you like to do it all the time. Go and get a story about a cat, a hat or mongoose, and read it this Saturday to celebrate Dr. Seuss. School kids will do it early, as class on Saturday is just quite squirmy. But no matter when you all get it done, the idea’s the same – just have some fun. Read loud, read small, read big, read tall. Just remember to read the whole book, front, middle and all.
