Do you enjoy live theatre? I do. There is just something so special about live performances. This year the Dietrich will be presenting two community theatre productions including the classic comedy Auntie Mame on April 24 through April 28 and the Civil War drama The Bridegroom of Blowing Rock on June 21 and 22. We will be holding auditions for both shows this Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Cast members needed for these productions are men and women ages 15 to 70 years old, and one boy who looks 10 years old. Those who are interested in auditioning are asked to making an appointment by calling 570-996-1511. During auditions individuals will be asked to read from parts of the script which are available on our website www.dietrichtheater.com. No prior acting experience is required to audition. We are also looking for people interested in working behind the scenes. If you have technical or backstage experience, or would like to learn, please give us a call.

In addition to holding auditions, the Dietrich will be offering a creative writing series for children ages ten to sixteen years old in March. Led by instructor Laurel Radzieski, students will experience sights, smells, sounds and unusual situations through prompts and activities aimed at inspiring writing. The group will examine their daily lives, outer space, sweaty socks and more. Students will learn about and write in several genres and also create mixed media works. Each participant will receive a writing notebook and all are encouraged to share their work. Admission is free. Call the Dietrich Theater at 570-996-1500 to register.

Another free class for kids that is just around the corner is Little People and Nature. Children ages 2 ½ to 5 years old and their favorite adults will join Rebecca Lesko of the Endless Mountains Nature Center for this hands-on, minds-on nature program. During this class series they will explore various nature topics including Feeder Flutter, Owls, Bear Buddies and Winter Wonders through crafts and role-playing, games and stories. There is a Tuesday class series available on March 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a Wednesday class series held on March 6, 13, 20 and 27 at the same time. Little People and Nature is sponsored by the Overlook Estate Foundation. Please call us at 570-996-1500 to sign up.

The Dietrich will also be hosting free movie showings of Ragtime in March. Join us on Wednesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to see this acclaimed movie on the big screen. This film was originally released in 1981 and stars James Cagney and Elizabeth McGovern. These free showings are the culmination of this year’s Wyoming County Reads project featuring the novel Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow. All are invited to attend whether you have read the book or not. We would like to thank the Wyoming County Commissioners Office for sponsoring this year’s project.

As you can see, the Dietrich is so much more than the movies!
