The next crime watch meeting will be at 6:30 on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the borough building on Main Street. Guest speaker will be Frank Sorick who will speak on ID theft.
Sorick has extensive experience on this topic and has worked for Fleet Bank for 10 years and Bank of America in the Detective Unit. Council meeting
The monthly meeting of Avoca Borough council will be held at on Thursday, Nov. 14 in the municipal building immediately following the 6:30 work session meeting.
Joseph Satkowski, council president will preside. The public is invited.
Yard waste
Yard waste will be collected on the first and third Tuesday of each month. This pick up will be discontinued on the third Tuesday in November.
Items to be collected are grass clippings and leaves in separate containers, Yard waste including shrubs, hedge clippings and tree limbs not exceeding 3 feet in length and 1/2 in. diameter. Rocks, stones, dirt and animal waste are not accepted.
A maximum of three open containers not to exceed 30 pounds will be allowed per collection. Plastic bags will be refused. Place containers at curbside by 8 a.m. Recycling Center will not accept grass and leaves combined with yard waste.
Recycling rules
Moosic recycling truck will be at the municipal garage, Plane St. every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The new system allows paper to be mixed with cardboard. Residents are urged to read and follow signs on the recycling truck.
The area will be monitored and violators can be fined or banned from future recycling privileges. Recycling flyers are available in the lobby of the Avoca Municipal Bldg. and at the recycling trailer.
Ash collection
Ashes are collected every Wednesday. Residents are asked to place them at curbside by 8 a.m.
Borough ordinance
Ordinance No. 5 of 2000 is an ordinance of the borough of Avoca, regulating construction and maintenance of driveway entrances or private roads within the borough.
The ordinance requires all persons connecting driveways to public roads to obtain permits, therefore requiring the submission of plans prior to the issuance of said permits and authorizing disapproval where the connection would result in drainage or other problems. Under the ordinance, a fee for issuance of such permits is required and penalties for violations levied.
