BARBAREVECH AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP
Karissa Barbarevech, a 2013 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, was awarded a four-year scholarship to The University of Scranton. She will be attend in the fall with a major in Bio-chem Cell Molecular Biology and Philosophy.
The daughter of Dr. Chris and Teresa Barberevech, of Moosic, Barbarevech was also accepted into the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honor Program and is a volunteer at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Scranton, where she transports, prepares meals and serves the homeless and working poor of the community. She is the daughter of Doctor Chris and Teresa Barbarevech, Moosic.
Maternal grandparents are Frank and Emilene Costantino, of Duryea. Paternal grandparents are the late Raymond Barbarevech and Marie Barbarevech, of Duryea.
Karissa has a sister Kristiana who will be a senior at The University of Scranton this fall where she will be receiving dual degrees in Bio-chem Cell Molecular Biology and Philosophy.
HUGHESTOWN LIONS CLUB
ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
Julie Schiandra was the recipient of the first Dale Kridlo Scholarship and the Clarence Hensley-Jerry Chilipko scholarship.
A senior and recent graduate of Pittston Area High School, Schiandra, along with her family, will be honored at a special dinner sponsored by the Hughestown Lions Club on July 15 at the Hughestown Hose Company.
Also on the agenda, the Lions Club will swear in new officers. New officers are president, Steve Golya; first vice-president, Fred Pierantoni; secretary, Denise Chilipko; treasurer, Phil Falvo; membership drive chairman Frank Tierney.
Army National Guard Pvt. Adrienne M. Anderson, of West Pittston, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
Anderson is the daughter of Tracy Anderson and Frank Calabro, both of Delaware Avenue, West Pittston. She is a 2011 graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School, Kingston.

Wyoming Seminary Dean Jay Harvey has announced the Greater Pittston Area students named to the Upper School Dean’s List for the spring trimester of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Tiffani Prescott, of Pittston, is currently participating in a faculty-led study abroad experience to Eastern Europe as part of the College’s Geographies Series. The trip includes excursions to the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. Prescott is a senior majoring in history at King’s College.
As part of the program, titled “Identity and Place in Slavic Cultures,” Prescott is among a group of 11 King’s students who will travel to numerous cultural sites, including the Auschwitz concentration camp located outside Krakow, the Devin Castle on the Danube in Slovakia and the Jewish Quarter in Prague.
