Connell Park wound up winless during eight games at the Big League Softball World Series in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The team improved offensively as the tournament progressed, scoring 23 runs in the last four games after being shut out three straight and scoring just two runs in the first four.

The tournament concluded for Connell Park, the East Region champion, with Tuesday’s 11-6 loss to Manila, Philippines, the Asia-Pacific Region champion.

Fort Myers, Fla., the Southeast Region champion, downed Connell Park, 9-4, Monday.

Two of the three Old Forge High School players on the team accounted for all the Connell Park extra-base hits and RBI against Fort Myers.

Rhyan Barnic and Taylor Nemetz delivered back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning. Barnic’s double drove in two runs and she scored on Nemetz’s double.

Barnic finished 1-for-3 with three RBI, including a groundout to drive in the team’s first run in the fifth inning.

Nemetz had her only hits of the tournament, a pair of doubles. She was the only player on the team with two doubles in the tournament.

Barnic went 1-for-3 with an RBI against Manila. Kimberly Regan, a pitcher who only batted three times in the tournament, had a pinch hit.

Barnic finished 3-for-13 and was second on the team with five RBI.

Regan had an 8.00 earned run average, the best among the four Connell Park pitchers that worked at least an inning. She tied for the team lead by striking out six.
