Ruth Culp Mattern, 88, of The United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township, died January, 3, 2011.
Born May 4, 1922, in Huntsville, she was a daughter of the late John Milton and Hannah Jones Culp. She was a 1942 graduate of the Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business. In her early years, she lived in the old family homestead on Overbrook Road, overlooking the beautiful Huntsville Reservoir. Working at Stull Brothers in Kingston, she met, and subsequently married, her husband, Joseph A. Mattern, of Forty Fort. They were married 50 years before his death in 1996. She worked at The Boston Store. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingston until her relocation to Wesley Village in 2004.
She was also preceding her in death were her husband; brother, Jack Culp, and sisters, Evelyn Bettinson, Hannah Culp, Dorothy Krebs, and Barbara Rave.
Surviving are daughter Marie D. Fink and husband Phillip, Finksburg, MD; son Joseph C. Mattern and wife Cheryl, Newark, DE; twin brother Royal J. Culp, Kingston; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Jan. 7 from the Snowdon Funeral Home, Shavertown. Reverend Paul Metzloff, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingston, officiated. Interment Huntsville Cemetery, Jackson Township.
