John Shaughnessy, 66, of Oplinger Towers, Nanticoke, died November 26, 2009, at Hospice Care of the VNA Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre, where he had been a patient for five days. He had been ill for the past several years.
Born on July 15, 1943, in Larksville, he was a son of the late William and Lillian (Hulsizer) Shaughnessy. Early in life he resided in Plymouth and New Jersey, and lived in Nanticoke for the past 34 years. Prior to retiring he was employed by Alta Shoe Co., Hanover Township.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Shaughnessy, on August 27, 2008, and a brother, William Shaughnessy Jr.
Surviving is his wife, the former Evelyn Lynn, whom he married on March 3, 1975; daughters Mary Shaughnessy, Wilkes-Barre, and Brenda Shaughnessy, Pittston; a brother, Richard Shaughnessy, and his wife, Debbie, Plymouth; as well as nieces nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. Timothy G. Hall, pastor of Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke, officiating. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home.
