John L. Fonzo, 79, of Wyoming, died December 18, 2009 in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.
Born in Exeter he was the son of the late Vincent (James) and Angeline Recine Fonzo. He was a graduate of the Exeter High School class of 1949. He was a veteran of the US Army. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement in 1999 he was employed at Proctor and Gamble of Mehoopany for 30 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittston, the Irem Temple Transportation Unit, Wyoming Masonic Lodge #468 F. &A.M. and the Scranton Consistory. He was a Scottish Rite Mason for 39years. He was also a member of the Exeter Police Auxiliary.
Preceding him in death were his brothers Gerald (BJ) Fonzo and Charlie Fonzo.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years the former Doris Johnson; sister; Johanna Turner and her husband Rick, Exeter; Mary Fonzo, West Pittston; brother; Anthony Fonzo and his wife Albina, Jenkins Twp; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11am in the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming with the Rev. William Lukesh of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment Pittston Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 4-7 p.m.
