The Pittston Area Varsity Hockey team dropped three hard fought contests this past week in key hockey action.
On Friday December 15 at the Ice Box in Pittston the Patriots dropped a hard fought 9 – 6 contest to Holy Redeemer. The Patriots were led by the scoring of J. P. Waleski, Ray Spiccioli, Rich Harth, Charles Morgan and Alan Folweiler. Waleski scored four goals in the contest including a hat trick, Harth added a goal and assist, Spiccioli added a goal and assist while Morgan and Folweiller contributed key assists. Down 6 – 2 the Patriots mounted a strong come back on three consecutive goals by Waleski with Harth tying the contest at six with a third period goal.
On Monday December 10 in the Casey Classic at the Wachovia Arena the Patriots dropped a hard fought 5 – 4 decision to the Wyoming Valley West Spartans. The Patriots were led by the scoring of Mike McNulty, Ray Spiccioli, Rich Harth, Alan Folweiller, J. P. Waleski and Tanya Lieback. McNulty and Harth recorded first and second period goals while Folweiler and Spiccioli registered key fourth period goals erasing a 5 – 2Spartan lead off of two assists by Waleski. Tanya Lieback also contributed a key Patriot assist.
On Sunday December 9 the Patriots were defeated 3 – 1by the Abington Comets at the Ice Box in Pittston in a NEPASHL contest. J. P. Waleski contributed the lone Patriot goal.
Playing key roles for the Patriots this past week were goal tender G. Passarella and skaters Matt Morgan, Kyle Jenkins, Anthony Passarella, Jeremy Elston, Justin Baron, Jerome Sulkoski, Shane Welsh and Patrick Barone.
The Patriots return to action Sunday night with a key NEPASHL contest against Scranton at 7 p.m. at the Ice Box and return to action in the Casey Classic at Wachovia Arena on Tuesday December 18 in a key contest against Abington before playing the rival Wyoming Area Warriors on Wednesday December 19. Both games are at 9:00 pm.
