The Ethnic Committee of Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church, Church and Main streets, Edwardsville, will hold its annual St. David’s Day Tea at 7 p.m. March 5 in the Sunday School Room of the church. The tea recognizes and honors St. David, the patron saint of the Welsh.
J. David Jones, chair of the Board of Deacons, will serve as toastmaster. The evening’s musical program will be presented by Pastor Gideon Gaitano, pastor of New Life Community Church, Hanover Township. Gaitano is a tenor soloist who has trained classically in voice at the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music. His soloist experience includes 20 years of theater, music theater, zarzuela and opera. He has performed professionally in the Philippines and the United States.
A time of hymn singing will also be conducted with Carol Wolosz directing and Tom Myers accompanying on the organ. The Rev. Louis Falcone, pastor of the church, will give remarks. Gifts will be awarded to the oldest woman and gentleman present.
A Te Bach (Welsh tea) will follow under the direction of Eleanor Vojtko and Betty Jones serving a variety of homemade breads, Welsh cookies, cheese, jams, coffee and tea.
