Misericordia downs Wilkes in Freedom Conference opener

DALLAS TWP. — After trailing by 12 points early in the first half, Misericordia rallied to take a 32-29 halftime lead and eventually built a 16-point lead in the second half en route to a 66-56 win over Wilkes in the Freedom Conference women’s basketball opener for both teams Wednesday.


Justine Seely and Lauren Smicherko combined for 39 points to lead the Cougars.


Hannah Seely had eight points and nine rebounds to contribute while Nikki Baro had seven points and seven rebounds.


The Cougars improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Freedom.


Delaware Valley 77, King’s 56


Delaware Valley opened up a 20-point halftime lead and walked away with a victory over visiting King’s in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.


Kayla Feairheller led the team with 11 points and four rebounds as Kasey Seitz followed with nine points, six rebounds and four assists while King’s third freshman starter, Shae Grim, tallied nine points.

King’s fell behind 43-25 at the half and fell short in a second-half comeback attempt as the Monarchs lost to Delaware Valley in their Freedom Conference opener.


Kyle Hammonds scored 19 points, including the 1,000th point of his collegiate career in the loss.
