Adam Morgan and John Gilligan, seniors at Dallas High School, received
certificates of merit for reaching the National Merit Scholarship Finals. The
distinction placed Morgan and Gilligan in a group of 15,000 students, which
represents less than 1 percent of high school graduating seniors across the
nation.
   
Kelly Bishop was honored by the Pittston Rotary Club as a Paul Harris
Fellow. The award is given to individuals whose dedication exemplifies the
Four Avenues of Rotary Service: club service, vocational service, community
service and international services.
    Gene Melvin, a Pittston Area High School graduate, was inducted into the
Lycoming College chapter of the Gamma Sigma Alpha Honor Society. Melvin is a
junior history major. A member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Melvin also received the
Interfraternity Council Scholar of the Year Award. Students are nominated by
their peers and a committee of faculty and staff determine the winners.
   
Kerrillee Morton, a Hanover Area Township graduate, was awarded the
Panhellenic Scholar Award at Lycoming College’s Greek Award Ceremony. A member
of Alpha Rho Omega, Morton is a communication major and a resident of Ashley.
Students are nominated by their peers and a committee of faculty and staff
determine the winners.
   
Matthew J. Chabalko, Hazleton, was named to the dean’s list for the spring
semester at Lehigh University with a 4.0 grade point average. Chabalko is an
electrical engineering student in Lehigh’s P.C. Rossin College of Engineering
and Applied Science. Chabalko, a freshman, is a 2002 graduate of Hazleton Area
High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Chabalko, Hazleton.
   
Shannon Conway, a Wyoming Valley West High School graduate, was named
editor of the Temple University yearbook. Conway is the first freshman to be
named as an editor of the yearbook. She is a carrying a double major of
journalism, and marketing/advertising. While at Valley West, Conway was the
sports editor of the award-winning high school yearbook overseen by Les
Nichols. Shannon is the daughter of Dr. Malcolm and Mary Conway.
