WILKES-BARRE — Attorneys for the husband of a Factoryville woman killed in a fatal hit-and-run last summer at Harveys Lake are seeking the car insurance records of the 31-year-old’s convicted killer.

Michael Scavone, 51, of Harveys Lake, pleaded guilty May 27 to vehicular homicide while driving under the influence and related charges stemming from the June 7, 2015 hit-and-run crash that killed Jones, a wife and mother who was jogging along Lakeside Drive in preparation for a triathlon.

Scavone, a repeat DUI offender whose blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit more than two hours after the crash, was immediately sentenced to serve between seven and 16 years in state prison.

Still ongoing is a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Jones’ husband, Brian Jones, that seeks damages from Scavone as well as American Legion Post 672 in Dallas and the Grotto Pizza bar and restaurant in Harveys Lake — two businesses Scavone was allegedly drinking at in the hours leading up to the fatal crash.

A motion filed Wednesday in Luzerne County Court by Brian Jones’ attorney, Neil T. O’Donnell, seeks outstanding discovery including Scavone’s unredacted claims log from Aug. 17, 2015 through June 14, as well as witness interviews and photographs referenced in the log. The filing also seeks 24 additional photographs.

The filing asks the court to strike the redactions and compel full versions of the discovery materials.
