WILKES-BARRE — Dr. Kalen Churcher, of Plymouth, assistant professor of communication studies at Wilkes University, recently co-authored an article on the media effects of Harry Potter. The article, “Political Activism and Harry Potter,” was co-authored by Churcher and Dr. Meghan Sanders of Louisiana State University and appears as a 20-page chapter in the book “From Here to Hogwarts: Essays on Harry Potter’s Fandom and Fiction,” edited by Christopher E. Bell. The book, published by McFarland and Co., was published in January 2016.

Churcher joined the communication studies faculty at Wilkes in 2014, where she teaches multimedia journalism, communication law and investigative reporting. She is also the faculty advisor of the campus newspaper, The Beacon. Churcher has published eight previous articles, primarily in the communications and cultural studies area.
