Third-grade student Davida Brannigan of Solomon Plains Elementary School recently received a $500 prize for winning first place in the Pennsylvania Dental Association’s (PDA) 2015 National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) statewide poster contest. Her winning poster reminded everyone to maintain a vital habit for good oral health, brushing twice a day, and depicted a blue toothbrush cleaning away green plaque monsters with the slogan ‘Brush Twice A Day To Keep The Monsters Away.’ Brannigan received a framed copy of her winning poster and the $500 prize from local dentists at a school awards assembly at Solomon Plains Elementary. Brannigan’s teacher, Michelle Krzywicki, and the school also received prizes of $250 each for being part of first place in the contest. Solomon Plains Elementary students won the first and second place this year. Second place winner was Destina Brannigan, Davida’s twin sister and also a third-grade student. She created a poster based on the classic video game, Pac-Man. Destina received a $250 prize. The winning posters were selected from nearly 150 entries. The contest was open to third-grade students in any Pennsylvania public, private or charter school. Visit PDA’s website at www.padental.org to learn more about NCDHM and other dental health topics. With the winning poster, are Davida and Destina Brannigan.
