KINGSTON – The Kingston American Legion, Black Diamond, 386 Wyoming Ave., is offering free flu shots from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, for veterans with membership cards or V.A. hospital cards and their spouses with insurance cards.

LUZERNE – Home Instead Senior Care, 269 Bennett St., Luzerne, along with Hospice of the Sacred Heart, is sponsoring a hospice workshop for the community 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct, 18.

This event is free of charge and the guest speaker will be from Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

The workshop will focus on the hospice and palliative care difference, the benefits of each, how to know if someone needs hospice or palliative care and what can be expected if a loved one is getting this care.

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA will hold a Mini Health Fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in its welcome center. It is free and open to the public.

Attendees can take advantage of flu shots by Rite Aid Pharmacy, hearing tests by the Audible Hearing Center, body analysis by the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA, information from ProCare Physical Therapy and Premier Health and more. There will also be a chance to win an annual family membership to the Y.

WILKES-BARRE – NEPA Disability Conference will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Woodlands Inn, 1078 Pennsylvania 315. There is no cost to attend the day-long event.

Employment, Medicaid waivers and how they can be used, participant directed services, Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and PA ABLE Act updates, are some of the topics to be discussed at the conference.

Individuals with disabilities, family members, service providers, direct support professionals, supports coordinators, and the general public are invited to attend.

The conference is co-sponsored by The Arc of Luzerne County and Rep. Aaron Kaufer of the 120th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, with support from the Luzerne County Bar Association and the Luzerne Wyoming Counties Provider Association. WILKES-BARRE – The annual candlelight vigil in recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Luzerne County Courthouse rotunda. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Wilkes-Barre Chapter and the area mental health agencies, the program will include entertainment, the presentation of the Lester Varano Advocacy Award and an inspirational candlelight ceremony.
