HAZLETON — A New York City homicide suspect was arrested in Hazleton on Thursday.

According to Hazleton police, Manuel Antonio Waisome Jr., 24, was arrested at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the area of 10th Street and Manhattan Court.

Waisome, of 720 Manhattan Court, allegedly sold heroin three times to undercover officers from the Hazleton Police Narcotics Unit who were working in conjunction with the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, police said.

After the last sale of heroin, officers took Waisome into custody. He was found to be in alleged possession of “buy money” with serial numbers pre-recorded by police. The Hazleton Police Patrol Division and Echo, Hazleton’s K-9, assisted in the arrest.

At the time of his arrest, police said, Waisome provided the name Jason Williams in an alleged attempt to conceal his identity. An investigation further revealed that Waisome is wanted in New York City in connection with a homicide there.

Hazleton police charged Waitsome with three counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a communication facility.

The New York Police Department Fugitive Task Force arrived around 6 p.m. Thursday at Hazleton Police Headquarters to help further the Hazleton Police Department’s investigation.
