WILKES-BARRE — Two city residents were arrested on drug charges after the vehicle they were in became stuck in snow while a travel ban was in effect during a blizzard that dropped over 2 feet of snow on the area two weeks ago.
Police said an officer observed Maurice Barnes operating a vehicle shortly after 9 p.m. on March 14 knowing he did not possess a valid driver’s license.
The officer saw Barnes’ vehicle become stuck in the roadway in the area of Park Avenue and Hill Street because of the weather conditions, police said.
Police allege that Barnes, 24, of Park Avenue, and his passenger, Siobhan Daniels, 30, of Hazle Street, both had drugs and drug paraphernalia in their possession.
Charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed against both suspects. Barnes also was charged with driving with a suspended license, police said.
Police also said that Barnes had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and he was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await a hearing.
