WEST HAZLETON — Police arrested Samuel Baez, 38, of West Broad Street, on charges he threatened customers and employees at Pantry Quick by stating he wanted blood and was going to start a war.

Baez was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Diana Malast in Plains Township on Tuesday on two counts each of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment and one count each of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

Police allege Baez was intoxicated and acting disorderly inside Pantry Quick on North Broad Street at about 11:45 p.m. Monday. Baez was pushed out of the store by an employee, according to the criminal complaint.

Baez grabbed the female employee as a male customer grabbed Baez.

Baez allegedly removed his belt and struck a customer in the head and chest several times, the complaint says.

Police said the customer bit Baez in the ear to get away from him.

Baez screamed profanities and pledged to return to the store to kill people and to start a war, the complaint says.
