20 years ago – 1995

Brownie Troop #649 recently held its investiture ceremony at Dallas Elementary School in which new members were officially welcomed by receiving their pin. The new scouts earned the “Girl Scout Ways” try-it, which is the first badge all members earn, and received the “Math Fun,” “Food Fun” and “Plants” try-it. Troop members are: Angela Duris, Diana Glicini, Jill Vanderhook, Laura Morgan, Shannon Kotch, Chelsey Coslett, Kaitlyn Musto, Jana Stec, Cassandra Backes, Sarah Rupert and Sara Swepston.

Daisy Girl Scout Troop 613 recently participated in an investiture ceremony. The newly invested Girl Scouts include Lauren Blanc, Caitlin Evans, Jacqueline O’Brien, Kenslie Kerestes, Sarah Thomason, Mia Esopi, Christina Scott, Rebecca Travis, Megan Youells, Stephanie Pace, Kristin Roberts and Nicole Brezinski.

30 years ago – 1985

After 20 years of service, Charles Lamoreaux of Huntsville Road, Dallas, retired from his maintenance and custodial position with the Dallas Post Office. His fellow workers honored him at a dinner this past Saturday at The Castle Inn in Dallas and presented him with numerous gifts.

Three female students from Lake-Lehman High School recently participated in District Chorus competition held at Bishop O’Reilly high School in Kingston. They are: Lori Cragle, Lisa Shaffer and Kathie Redline. Cragle advanced to Region IV Chorus which was held this past weekend at Loyalsock Township High School in Williamsport.

Mark Farrell, backed by big Joe Darling and Steve Wilson, scored 22 points in last Thursday’s game against North Pocono to lead Dallas cagers to a 53-49 overtime win. The win advanced the Mountaineers to the next round of the AAA division playoffs, this weekend, against Honesdale at Scranton CYC.

40 years ago – 1975

Three students from Dallas Senior High School were selected to participate in Region 2 State Band held Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Easton High School. The students were Robert Baird, Trucksville; Philip Miller, Dallas; and John Kraynak, Trucksville.

Members of the Dallas Fire and Ambulance Inc. have elected officers for the year. Elected were president, Robert Richardson; vice president, Timothy Carroll; secretary, Lynn Sheehan; and treasurer, Paul Labar.

The Dallas Fire and Ambulance Ladies Auxiliary will hold a farmer dance later this month the Jackson Fire Hall. Music will be provided by the Merry Makers and refreshments will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Richardson, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Barry, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smith and Mrs. and Mrs. Willard Newberry are in charge of the dance.

50 years ago – 1965

E.R. Kerwin, of Kunkle, was elected president of the Craftsmen of the Endless Mountains at a meeting in February. Mr. Kerwin is a well-known weaver of rag rugs, and handbags, and other items, at his home in Kunkle.

Dallas Junior Woman’s Club will hold a Fashion Show on May 11 at Trucksville Educational Building. Mrs. Charles Allabaugh will be general chairman and Mrs. Robert Andrews, co-chairman of the affair. The following committee heads have been appointed: Mrs. Robert Stair, program; Mrs. Edward Thompson, tickets; Mrs. C. Edward Johnson, refreshments; Mrs. Paul Lauer, Mrs. Joseph Borton, publicity; Miss Marlyne Lipfert, decorations; Miss Susie Williams, posters; Mrs. Robert Lewis, invitations.

60 years ago – 1955

Harold Hislop, fifth grade student in the Dallas Elementary School, was awarded a Certificate of Honorable Mention in the recent Dental Health Poster Contest sponsored by the Luzerne County Dental Society Auxiliary. The posters were made under the supervision of Mrs. Dorothy T. Whithey, Supervisor of Art, and Mrs. Louise McQuilkin, fifth grade teacher.

Joseph Mundy was elected president of the Jefferson Social Club at a meeting held Thursday night in Back Mountain Library Annex.

Cub Scout Pack 200 enjoyed baked ham, French-fries, peas, tossed salad, home-made rolls, ice cream and cake at the annual Blue and Gold dinner Thursday night in Prince of Peace parish hall. Tables were decorated by Mrs. Robert Wallace. Mrs. H.B. Schooley and her committee prepared and served the dinner.

70 years ago – 1945

New members of the Mountain Grange, Carverton, were initiated in the first four degrees at meetings held at the Grange Hall Saturday and Tuesday nights. The new members are: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brace, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Croman, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Coon, Mr. and Mrs. Al Scureman, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ray, Mr. William Perrego and Mrs. Jack Scoble.

A fashion show will be the feature of Dallas Woman’s Club at their meeting in Lundy’s Banquet Room Wednesday evening. Models will be Mrs. James Huston, Mrs. Floyd Chamberlain, Miss Josephine Stem, Mrs. Raymond Elston, Miss Mildred Devens, Mrs. Clyde Gruver.
