20 years ago – 1955

The 10 members of this year’s Confirmation Class of Trucksville United Methodist Church recently affirmed their membership in the church at a worship service preceded by a breakfast with family and friends and by a reception. Each member of the class received a new Bible and a history of the church. Confirmands were: Benjamin Brown, Rachel Farley, Kevin Gaylord, Kerri Stephens, Michael Barlow, Shannon Cosgrove, Jaclyn Senese, Joseph Senese, Blake Bicking and Nathan Jones.

Recently the eighth grade American Cultures classes at the Dallas Middle School attended a Civil War program presented by Darrell Zofcin, who played the role of Colonel R.B. Ricketts and illustrated the Battle of Gettysburg. Attending were: Matthew Pacovsky, Mark Mitterick, Damien Tyira, Chris Tucker, Beth Carey, Tucker Millington, Matt Barnard and Nicole Pascoe.

30 years ago – 1985

Teen volunteers at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, recently participated in an educational orientation program prior to beginning their summer assignments. The candy stripers toured the facility and received instruction in bed making, confidentiality, patient transport and incident reporting. Candy stripers taking part in the training are Kim Taylor, Donna Greger, Lori Leary, Heather Hoyes, Tracy Phillips, Michelle Yanchulis, Terry Truesdale, Rene Ann Barbacci, Carol Bigler, Ann Wilson. Laura Hayer, Lori Niedzwiecki and Jennifer Steuben.

Irem Temple’s Illustrious Potentate Paul Schramm has been elected President of the Pennsylvania Shrine Association at a recent meeting, held at the Hilton Inn, King of Prussia, Pa.

40 years ago – 1975

Barbara Marie and Rick Kowalski, Dallas, recorded Barbara Marie’s original song, “Why I Got Two Daddies,” along with “Before I Met You,” at the Porter Waggoner Studios, Nashville, Ten. recently. The couple, who have entertained in the area under the name Country Sweethearts, made the recording for Brite Star Records. The couple will soon begin a long promotion tour in Canada.

Little League Managers in the Back Mountain majors met recently to select boys to represent the Back Mountain in All-Star playoffs. Boys selected for the American League team are: Michael Dent, Joe Gomba, Gary Masaitis, Greg Zumchak, Scott Enslen, Scott Heller, David Konopki, Peter Martin, Brian Zimmerman, Kurt Goeringer, Alan Gordon, David Ostrofski, Kenneth Sitkowski and Harold Stout.

Members of the National League team are: John Belle, Tom Bevevino, Alan Casaday, Bradley Bullock, Rod Kaye, Todd Cragle, Edward MacMillan, Louis Correale, Jeff Drugotch, Bob Besecker, Jimmy Brennan, Brian Muldoon, David Splain and James Thomas.

50 years ago – 1965

Shavertown “A” team of the Church Bowling League, and their families, enjoyed their tenth annual outing at South Montrose, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mannear. Highlights of the weekend were an auction Saturday afternoon and a trip to Five-Mile-Point, NY Saturday evening for the stock car races. Team members and their families attending were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mannear and John; Mr. and Mrs. William Rood, Pat and Peggy; Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas and JoAnn; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Davis and Ricky; Mr. and Mrs. Burton Roberts; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fritzges, Gerald, Larry, David and Donald; Mr. and Mrs. Faye Hopkins.

Jane Caffrey, ninth grade student at the Dallas Junior High School, was crowned “Queen of the Freshman Farewell Dance.”

Dallas Women of Rotary installed their 1965-66 officers at a meeting at Irem Temple Country Club last Friday night. Officers are: Mrs. Harry McCartney, president; Mrs. Stanley Hozempa, first vice president; Mrs. John Konsavage, treasurer; Mrs. James Hutchinson, recording secretary; Mrs. James F. Besecker, corresponding secretary.

60 years ago – 1955

Mrs. Thomas Robinson, a veteran Red Cross worker in the community, was appointed to the Board of Directors and chairman of the Back Mountain area at the annual luncheon meeting Thursday at Red Cross Headquarters in Wilkes-Barre. Mrs. Robinson was Back Mountain chairman of the recent Red Cross Drive.

Mrs. Fred Eck, Trucksville, chairman of refreshments, announces solicitors for frankfurters for the Library Auction. Mrs. Harry Goeringer, Jr., in charge of meat solicitation, will personally cover Orange, Carverton, and East Dallas. Mrs. John Landis will solicit Trucksville merchants, Mrs. Merle Faegenburg and Mrs. Richard Stouffer, Shavertown. Mrs. Leroy Dourand and Mrs. Ted Ruff will contact Dallas butchers; Mrs. Raymond Elston, Kunkle; Miss Mary Bennallack, Fernbrook. There will be no solicitation of frankfurters in Lehman, Harveys Lake or Sweet Valley, as Harveys Lake lions will ask grocers in those areas for hams.

70 years ago – 1945

Two faithful executives of First National Bank of Dallas were advanced in rank in recognition of their loyal service to the institution at a meeting of the Board of directors on Wednesday. W.B. Jeter, cashier, was advanced to executive vice-president in full charge of the administration of the bank and clerical force; and Frederick J. Eck, assistant cashier, was advanced to cashier.

Beaumont 4-H Club held its first meeting of the 1945 season last Wednesday at Beaumont High School. They chose as their name “Mend and Make” and elected the following officers: president, Rosemary Kozak; vice-president, Priscilla Davis; secretary, Maude Clark; song leader, Louise Bigelow; game leader, Nancy Gunton; and news reporter, Shirley Kozak.
